Hardware & compatibility
Exactly what it runs on
No “works with any device”. Here is the supported hardware, the network it needs and what a pro shop typically ends up with — published so procurement can check it before a conversation rather than after one.
Compatibility matrix
Supported devices
Where a row says a family rather than a single model, that is because support follows Stripe Terminal's device list rather than a hardware catalogue we maintain separately.
| Device | Supported | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Card reader | Stripe Terminal readers — WisePOS and compatible models | Pairs in Settings → Payments. Tap, chip and swipe. |
| Card without a reader | Keyed entry; pay-by-QR on the customer's phone | For phone orders, invoiced outings and reader downtime. |
| Register computer | Desktop, laptop or tablet running a current browser | Chrome, Safari and Edge are the tested browsers. |
| Customer-facing display | A second screen on the register device | Shows the cart and takes the tip decision. |
| Receipt / kitchen printer | Networked Star WebPRNT printers | Prints silently — the right choice for a kitchen ticket. |
| Printer (alternative) | Any installed system printer | Works, but opens a print dialog on each ticket. |
| Barcode scanner | USB or Bluetooth scanners in keyboard mode | In-store Code 128 labels can be generated for items with no barcode. |
| Kitchen display | Any browser on a screen in the back of house | An alternative to printing tickets. |
| Clubhouse TV board | Any browser on a TV or media stick | Drives the live tournament leaderboard. |
| Staff phones | iOS and Android | Schedules, announcements and league scorecards. |
Compatibility above reflects the production configuration as of August 2026. Card-reader support tracks Stripe Terminal; check Stripe’s current device list for models released after that date, or ask us and we will confirm against your shortlist.
What a pro shop usually ends up with
A typical single-counter configuration. Multi-counter, grill-room and starter-hut setups add to this rather than changing it.
- At the counter
- One register device, one card reader, a second screen facing the golfer, and a receipt printer.
- Back of house
- Either a kitchen display on a screen, or a networked Star printer producing tickets.
- The starter
- A tablet on the tee sheet for check-in — usually the cheapest device on the list and the one that saves the most walking.
- The grill room
- A TV running the leaderboard board on league nights.

Fulfilment
How hardware actually arrives
- 1
Scoped
During discovery we count counters, screens, printers and readers against how the shop actually works, not against a package.
- 2
Ordered
Hardware is ordered as part of implementation so it arrives before configuration rather than after go-live.
- 3
Paired & tested
Readers pair in Settings, printers are addressed on your network, and staff take a test payment before anything is live.
- 4
Supported
If a reader fails, replacement is handled under the terms written into your proposal — the process is agreed before you need it.
Hardware questions
Which card readers work?
Stripe Terminal readers — the WisePOS family and compatible models — which pair from Settings → Payments and accept tap, chip and swipe. Because payments run on Stripe Terminal rather than proprietary hardware, reader support follows Stripe's supported device list rather than an Aced-only list.
Can I take a card without a reader?
Yes. Keyed entry works from the register, and a pay-by-QR link lets the golfer complete payment on their own phone. Both are useful for phone orders, outings invoiced afterwards and the day a reader is out of action.
What computer do I need?
A modern browser on a desktop, laptop or tablet. Aced is a web application rather than an installed till, so most courses run it on hardware they already own and add readers.
Do receipt and kitchen printers work?
Networked Star WebPRNT printers work best and print silently, which is what you want for a kitchen ticket. An installed system printer also works, but opens a print dialog each time — usable at a counter, not in a grill.
How is hardware bought and replaced?
That is part of your proposal rather than a public price list. What is public is the compatibility above and what your setup requires; quantities, ownership, replacement and shipping terms are written into the quote so both sides can see them before anything is signed.
